Yayasan Tenaga Nasional Scholarship Overseas 2018

Hi again. I recently went to YTN Scholarship Interview. The Interview was held at UNITEN Kajang. Before getting to this stage, we obviously have to apply online for this scholarship. It was very simple. So, this is the first post-SPM interview that I was shortlisted for so I was quite nervous coming into it but soon enough I realise that Khazanah Global, Petronas, BN and any other scholarship will be tougher than this. Before I tell you any details regarding the interview, I just want to let anyone reading this know that it changes every year and this is my year experience. Btw, I applied for Accounting in the UK and my session was the morning session. Regarding the number of applicants, I am not quite sure as there were about 50 applicants during my session and this event was held for 4 days.

Let's begin. The registration will start at 8 so be there at least 20 mins earlier. At 8am, a TNB officer came and escorted us to a hallway. He asked us to prepare our forms and documents. REMEMBER TO BRING ALL DOCUMENTS WHICH HAS BEEN CERTIFIED TRUE COPY. Many candidates either did not bring their past coco certs or did not ctc it. So just make sure you remember to bring it. I was the first student to register and I sat behind the registration table. I was given a tag with a letter and a number. Mine was E14 (all accounting candidates was E). After registration, we were all asked to sit in front of a projector screen (behind the registration table) and listen to a very very short briefing. Then we were asked to sit for 2 personality test on the computers (10 mins each). Nothing at all to worry about the test, just do it "honestly" (basically what you think is the right answer and makes you sound good).

After the test, we were asked to wait in the waiting room a floor below. We were given a bread and a bottle of mineral water. At this point, you could prepare your answers or just talk and socialise with the rest. All the accounting candidates were called at once. There were 3 of us. E14,15 &16. We were ushered to sit outside of a classroom and wait patiently for our turn. I was the first one call into the room.

I composed myself and put on a big confident smile. I knock the door and entered. There were 3 interviewers, 2 females and 1 male. They were all Malay so I gave my salam and shook the guy's hand. The questions of the interview are simple and they weren't very difficult. TNB just wanted to really know you and wanted to see how passionate you are in the chosen field.

The questions that they asked were:
1. Tell me about yourself
2. Why didn't you take Accounting during your SPM?
3. Why Accounting?
4. As a prefect in your school, what was the hardest /most difficult challenge you faced?
5. How did you handle the naughty kids in your school?
6. What do you know in TNB?
7. As an accountant in TNB, how do you think you can help the company?
8. In the future, we may not need accountants because anyone can key in the numbers, What is your take on that?
9. Since you achieve A+ in all Science subjects, why not engineering?
10. Where do you see yourself in the future?
11. Did you apply for any other scholarships?

I can't really remember all but these are a few of them. They weren't hard to answer just be confident. At the end, you also could ask a few questions, I asked one of them (who was an accountant) of the role an accountant plays in TNB and a few more. The result will be announced in May 2018.

Good luck to anyone who is reading this. I hope this will help you in your future undertakings and fill free to ask me questions regarding this interview below.
